Dental & Facial Implants

What are dental & facial implants?

Dental implants are effectively titanium screws inserted in the jawbone or the facial skeleton to replace a missing tooth. In some patients, they may even be used to replace missing ears, noses, or eyes — if removed during tumour surgery.

Facial implants are often made of medical-grade polymer and are used to augment the soft tissue of the face (e.g. the chin, jaw, and cheeks) to obtain a more desirable facial balance. Led by Dr Muammar Abu-Serriah, the team at MercyAscot Head and Neck Service provide this treatment to patients with lost teeth or missing jawbone following tumour ablation or trauma, and to those seeking a more desirable facial balance.

Reasons for dental and facial implants

Dental or facial implants may be recommended in the following situations:

  • Replacing missing teeth
  • Anchoring dentures
  • Restoring mouth function following treatment of a tumour
  • Restoration of facial features following facial trauma
